9 represents September which is Sickle Cell Awareness Month
We Take Care Of Our Sickle Cell Families
Maroon 9 visits the sick and shut-in patients and helps relieve overwhelmed family members by giving them a break from caring for their loved ones.
We bring family members staying in the hospital with a Sickle Cell child bags filled with fruits, snacks, cards, crossword puzzles, games etc. to help the time pass.
Most importantly we keep in touch with patients and family members through
phone calls and cards.
SICKLE CELL AFFECTS YOUR EYES
MAROON 9 PROVIDES FREE EYE EXAMS AND
EYEGLASSES FOR THOSE WHO NEED THEM
People who have Sickle Cell Disease can sometimes have vision problems. Blood cells that change shape, or "sickle", can get trapped in blood vessels blocking the blood flow. When this blockage occurs in the small blood vessels in the inner lining (retina) of the eyes, it can cause vision problems. This most often occurs in people who have Sickle Cell Hemoglobin SS or SC. In the worst cases, the retina may come loose, leading to permanent blindness. This may happen suddenly, without any warning. Early detection can help prevent these problems. Having your child's eyes checked during the newborn period and again at all routine well-child visits. And get routine eye exams as an adult.
