Mike the Meerkat
Mike the Meerkat also know as Mike on the Mic is the coolest cat in the Lone Star state. He’s a fun loving, microphone toting, lyrical meerkat cat with a hip-hop hype look. Mike wears his hat to the back with baggy pants and black hiking boots. Everywhere he goes, he takes his microphone with him; singing and rapping to the kids and turning sickles into smiles. Mike the Meerkat is living with Sickle Cell Disease, but despite his own adversities, he accentuates the positive and eliminates the negative. He maintains a humble persona as he continues to deliver positive messages to kids and adults and brings joy to their life. Mike the Meerkat is one of America’s newest motivators to the practical, problem-solving world for our beloved children. His books affirm the value of friendships and family relationships that encourage children to solve problems fairly and creatively.
DJ Real Dill
Every hip-hop artist has a hype man and that’s just who DJ Real Dill is; Mike the Meerkat’s hype man. This cool, crisp DJ rocks the turn-tables, dances and is the prime kosher in the hip-hop world of Gherkin Dee Jay’s. DJ Real Dill is a creatively ambitious pickle who ensures the community remember Sickle Cell Disease by spinning his favorite rap phrase, Pickles for Sickle Cell because Sickle Cell is a Dill of a Pickle. When DJ Real Dill is around so is his Kool-Aid pickles and all his flavors are loved by everyone that eats them.
Granny Mae is the quirky, hilarious neighborhood grandmother that helps to protect the vulnerable. She is committed to promoting a bully-free environment not just for children but for senior citizens too. Granny Mae carries her magnifying glass and “Bully Baton” everywhere she goes, exposing bullies and those that prey on the less fortunate. Granny Mae also loves to read stories to children during story time at the library, at their school or at any community event. The children and their parents happily engage and take pleasure in the collection of backwards tales that only Granny Mae can deliver on her wacky perspective on parenting, child behaviors and elderly issues that she finds ruffle her feathers. Her grand-motherly intuition also helps her identify children she believes has vision problems and that are struggling to read so she can get them eye glasses immediately. If there is a concern that should be exposed, Granny Mae’s loving and nurturing spirit makes it easy for a child or senior to open up and share so they can get the necessary support and help that is needed to protect them.
