Maroon 9 Sickle Cell Support Organization founded in November, 2015, is a non-profit organization for the support of those suffering with Sickle Cell Disease within Tarrant County, Texas.
Although we give to and support Sickle Cell research in hopes of finding a cure, our organization believes our resources are better spent helping the basic needs of the over 27,000 Sickle Cell patients in Tarrant County. This includes but is not limited to assistance with rent and utilities during hospitalizations, assisting with the educational needs of children within a family that is struggling financially as a result of caring for a loved one with Sickle Cell Disease and providing external service care to Sickle Cell patients through our partnering relationships with other organizations such as medical, health and housing facilities.
Maroon 9 Sickle Cell Support Organization has served over 200 Sickle Cell families, educated thousands in the community about Sickle Cell Disease at our Annual World Sickle Cell Day/Juneteenth Celebration, our Annual Sickle Cell Walk and Community Health Fair, and our Annual Sickle Cell Scholarship Banquet. Maroon 9 hosts an Annual Christmas Toy Drive and Co-Hosts the Annual Cook Children's Medical Center Hematology & Oncology Christmas Party, Maroon 9 has provided eyeglasses for children whose eyesight is affected by Sickle Cell Disease and who just need eyeglasses, we provided scholarships for higher education to children within financially challenged households, placed homeless Sickle Cell families in safe housing, and fed and distributed blankets and shoes to over a thousand homeless people in the community.
And, last but certainly not least, Maroon 9 has adopted Van Zandt Guinn Elementary School where children with Sickle Cell Disease attend. We are partners on the Site Base Team and have created an Education Foundation at the school that includes incentives for perfect attendance for the child and their parents and created an extracurricular Theater Program.
